"Great playing, superb songs and amazing harmonies" (Northern Guitar Shows, 2023)
Ian's SOlo Album: Confusion Clear (2021)During the Covid lockdown periods, The Huers, like all other musicians, had been unable to perform live or rehearse. Therefore they had been pursuing other musical and creative pastimes; see below this box for more details.
Ian decided to work on an instrumental, ambient album using a variety of synthesisers, orchestral libraries, and acoustic and electric guitars. It's a follow up to his last solo album, Night Visions...20 years previous! The album, Confusion Clear, was released on 27 January 2021. You can find out more about the album, its conception, and buy a copy or stream it by visiting Ian's Karona Sound site. |
Phil's guitar tutorial youtube channel
At Huers gigs, Phil was often asked about the techniques he uses when playing, such as frailing and the use of a partial capo to bring out different tunings. Also, he is a huge fan of Mark Knopfler, his major influence on picking up a guitar in the first place, and has become an authority on MK's playing technique.
He therefore decided to set up a YouTube channel in which he covers a wide range of various techniques, including a lot of the tricks and techniques used by Mark Knopfler. The videos are of an excellent quality and in them, Phil breaks down the styles of playing slowly in order to help guitarists improve their technique. Click on the link below to go to Phil's YouTube channel. An example is show here. Link: Phil's YouTube Channel. Please do like and subscribe to the channel, as every view and contribution helps to keep the channel alive. Do also comment and let him know if you would like any particular tips covered in future episodes...he's always open to suggestions! |

ian's podcast series: Half Hour Mentor
In 2022, Ian set up his own business, Karona Sound. He is a producer of various forms of media, including writing soundtracks for video and games. His first commission was for an online adventure game called The Waiting Room, which will be released towards the end of 2023. A soundtrack album will be released to coincide with its launch, so look out for that.
However, his main focus has been to curate and produce a podcast series called Half Hour Mentor. The aim of the podcasts is to help students, early career professionals and anyone who is interested to improve their personal and professional development by learning from experts in their field who have been there, done it and are still doing it! Over 20 episodes have been released to date; the first series focused on business and finance, with guests such as Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, and global motivational speaker, Paul McGee (aka The SUMO Guy). In the second series, Ian focused on the creative arts, interviewing musicians, authors and theatre directors; guests included award-winning songwriter and musician Charlie Dore, and million-selling crime novelist Simon McCleave. Episodes can be accessed on all major streaming platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube, or via the Acast player below. Look out for Series Three, due to be launched in Autumn 2023! |
